At present, I'm on a painting binge, I am focusing on Skies. I had a good show over the weekend, selling brings focus. So I will paint like a maniac, until I burn myself out and have to take a break for a couple days. That seems to be my pattern.

Push

Two forces, pushing against each other. I live on a hill and the wind blows all the time. We have a 90 year old tree that leans toward the wind, like the tree in my painting. For 90 years this tree has battled the wind, each pushing against the other. When Hurricane Ike came though last year we had 90 mile an hour winds for 3 hours. Our electricity was out for 3 1/2 days. There was 1 million people without electricity, because of all the trees that had blown over. But there on the hill, still standing, is our old tree. Because the struggle, pushing against the wind, had made it stronger, so it was able to stand when the storm came. Do you have things and circumstances pushing against you?

I am back from the show. It usually take me a couple day to recover from a show, especially if it's hot, and it was. So I will be laying around like a zombie for a while. The mental part is the toughest. I have to be mentally focused to paint, and after a show I need to paint, but my mind is in hibernation for a while. The social aspect of selling is entirely drainly. I have talked myself out. I came home last night and my son had a wild, baby, bunny that he caught in the yard. What was my wife thinking, when she let them bring it in the house. It got lose and we have been chasing it around the house this morning.

I will be loading the van up today for my art show this weekend. The first show of the year is always difficult. I always have a lot of new work and have no idea on how I am going to hang the work at the show. I will spend a couple hours moving the paintings around until I get it right. I hope some of you like paintings with a single tree on a hill, because I really like painting them. There is so much that can be read into a solitary tree. Solitude, Loneliness,Pride, Indifference, or as a watchman. Hence the Name "Standing Watch". I guess it depend on your perspective. Are you looking at the tree or are you the tree.

So far the hardest thing about doing a painting a day is taking Photos, editing and getting them on the computer. It take so much time that it is hard to get in the mental state to paint. So I think I need to paint like a maniac, and designate a certain day to do all the computer work. I had to drive to Lexington, Kentucky today to pick up some paintings that I had in a gallery there. They had been putting off remodeling for some time, and the economy being as it is., they figured this was the perfect time. They will reopen for the winter holiday shopping season. I'm sure the economy will be in full swing by then. HUH!

Still at it, I am enjoying the smaller paintings. I left early this morning for a painting day with other artist, so I have been painting all day long. Last night I went to an Easter service. Six of us artist were painting on 2 feet x 3 feet canvases with our hands. I was black paint on a white canvas. Each individual canvas, honestly looked like something that a two year old would do. We stacked them together to form a 6ft x 6ft painting. We purposely stacked them so they didn't look like anything, to confuse the audience. Confuse them, we did! Then on cue, we flipped them over and they formed a bust of Jesus with a crown of thorns. Is was a rousing success and a lot of fun!

I am hoping to continue listing a painting a day, in this series of framed impressionistic paintings. With my art shows fast approaching it may be difficult, we shall see. The Masonite is gessoed with a brush, so it leaves some hairlike brush strokes. That combined with more brush strokes from the actual painting process and it's a lively little painting.

This is the first of series of Impressionistic paintings that I am currently doing. They are painted on Masonite. It is filled withlots of very tiny hair-like brush strokes. The small size allows me to really get crazy and do some experimenting. Loads of fun!
