It has been a busy week. I met with a company that decorates Hotels and Hospitals. They produce the prints, matt, frame, and hang the paintings. They are publisher/designer type company. They have been a regional company and are looking to go National. Hopefully something good will come from it.

Now I am in the middle of putting Granite Tiles on top of our old Formica Counter Top. What a mess. I did a 4 foot section yesterday, I now know that I wasn't meant to be a Tiler. I guess it is good to have that knowledge, just in case someone decides to do a infomercial about how you can become rich by starting a tiling company. I will now know to resist.

Last I heard, this Lighthouse was owned by the artist Jamie Wyeth. What a view that would be. Though, since it is an island, most difficult. We found on our trip to Maine, that many of the people and businesses migrate south for the hash winter months. We talked to some of the boat tour people. They were taking their boats to the Bahamas to do tours during the winter. Gotta feel sorry for them, HUH!

I have been cleaning out my Studio/Gallery , three trash cans later and it looks pretty good. During the summer when I am doing shows it gets pretty trashed. I take a different mix of paintings to each show. So, I am loading, unloading and reloading the van each week. That and the fact that I am a chronically disorganised artist, and you have a recipe for disaster.

In the summer it is a working studio, in the winter it is a hanging Gallery. So I am now ready for the huddled masses who will, like Lemmings to the sea, transverse their way to Memphis, Indiana. Compelled by forces beyond their understanding, to see awesomely spectacular paintings.

acrylic painting of fall trees

This is also a painting that I repainted. When I first painted it, it wasn't meant to be a realistic painting. It was flatter and had more contemporary feel. it is now a little more to the realistic side.

This painting is also a painting that I corrected. Go to my other blog http://artistderek.blogspot.com to see the before and after pictures. It is an example of a painting that had too many cool colors.

I am now back home for a while. I have started doing taxes. My oldest son is a Senior. For college we have to have our taxes done by the end of January, I believe. The last 2 days I have set my tent up in my yard and have been taking slides of my booth to jury into shows for next season. Now, I have to take slides of individual paintings. I live on top of a hill, and in late October the wind will starts blowing really hard, making it difficult to take any pictures outside. So, I am sorta under the gun to get them done. My first show application is due in 2 weeks.

I'm back! Original Acrylic landscape panorama painting

Well, I'm back from my last art show. It was a grueling year. Not so much because of the number of shows that I did. More so, because it was stressful. There is just to much uncertainty. A normally great show in this economy, can be a really bad, lose money show right now. As an example, I did a show in South Bend , Indiana in June. It is normally a very good show.

-
I was driving through downtown South Bend, going to the show to set my tent up. I was listening to NPR. A story came on about the City with the highest unemployment in the nation. The winner was Elkart, Indiana which is a Sister city to South Bend. You can guess how that show went.

Hopefully I can get back to posting more regularly. Here we Go!

St James Art Fair

I'm at the St James Art Fair this weekend. If you happen to be going, I'm on Belgravia Court just four booths from 6th street. This is my last show of the year. I hope to get back to posting more regularly now. Wish me luck, 800 artist and around 300,000 people attending.
