I think of focus as having a singular purpose. A Lighthouse has a focused beam of light, and exist for a singular purpose. To warn ships of danger.

This is not a real place, but it is the type of scene that I have surrounding me, as I live in the middle of the rolling hills of southern Indiana. I never paint a scene as it is. I find, I always have to rearrange nature. God made it beautiful, but he didn't intend his work to be put in such a tiny space. So it needs to be rearrange for the sake of balance and symmetry.

Really a lot, to get in such a small space. I wonder how long the Lighthouses will remain, I am afraid they will go the way of the Covered bridge.

--------------------Wilderness By Derek Collins
Perchance I walk on distant lands,
Where ne'er did foot to find it's path,
But oh,
What glory it would be,
Embraced in natures simplicity.

I guess looking at the snow, has put me in the mood to paint snow. I live in a 1924 renovated farm house. I'm sure it probable doesn't have any insulation in the walls. So I will be particularly happy to see spring.

Painting Class

Today I conducted a paint along, painting class. We had 18 eager painters show up for the event. A pretty good turnout I think.

We painted a scene of fall trees. Stay tuned tomorrow, and I will show you the painting that we painted. It's been a full day. My son has a basketball game tonight.

The Grand parents have been trying to come for 3 years to see my son Tyler play basketball. Every time they make plans to come it snows, and the game is cancelled. They are calling for snow on game day again. First real snow of the year, what's the chance of that. This is like the 6th time. I am suppose to teach a painting class with 20 people, on Saturday and it is suppose to snow on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Looks like that might get cancelled as well. Ouch!

I am getting ready to teach a class in acrylic. We are basically going to try to paint a painting in 2 hours. It should be really interesting. I am going to try to make them use really large brushes. I think the people that have been painting for a while, are going to have a harder time with the large brushes, than the people who have never painted before. We shall see. This is the first time I have done a large group, so it should be interesting on my side as well.

Happy New Year Everyone,
I am having a hard time believing it is 2010 and only 2 years till the end of the world. Just kidding! There have been a lot of books on the year 2012. I am now living in or past the time frame of most of the science fiction shows that I saw as a kid.

Star Trek
This talk of science fiction has gotten me thinking about Star Trek and the future. They seem to work all the time. Some things never change!

I have heard other people talk about the fact that they never go to the bathroom. That got me to thinking that maybe they aren't getting enough fluids. There are many different levels to a Starship and what, like 370 people or so. It's like a small city. But the only place they seem to be able to get water, is in their rooms or in the Cafeteria. That's pretty inconvenient, they are probably all dehydrated. It's no wonder that they don't ever go to the bathroom.
