Original Modern Acrylic Abstract Painting on Canvas

Original Modern Acrylic Abstract Painting on Canvas
24x48 on canvas
"Convergence"

In the past my abstracts have been highly structured with a lot of distinct geometric shapes.
I am now painting in a little bit looser style with a lot more variety of colors. More to come.

This painting is painted on wood. These rectangular shapes remind me of my Grandmothers quilts. My brother and I stayed with her during the summer, and she had us help her tie the knots between the patterns.

Just got back from a show in Paducah, Kentucky, it was a hot weekend. It was a 3 day show and it when until 8 pm. I have been laying around like a zoombie for 2 days. Imagine working 50 hours in 3 days. It's a glamorous job and someone has to do it. The floods didn't hurt Paducah, but they said the water was 5 feet up on the flood wall. There were Fema signs everywhere telling people they could apply for aid if they had damage.

My first show is in a couple weeks. I seem to do my most productive painting when I am under a deadline. In the two week period before the first show I usually go on a painting binge, and I paint two months worth of painting. If the show goes well I will keep on painting at a furious pace. If the show doesn't go well, then it can send me into a creative lull. I wish it wasn't that way. But selling give me creative energy. It also gives me direction and ideas of other things to paint. The creative energy also come from interacting with art collectors and getting direction from the feedback I get from they regarding my new work. Some of the new painting will stand out from the crowd, some will go virtually unnoticed. That's how I get direction from their feedback.

This second picture is a little dark, but allows you to see the Texture a little better, really thick This painting was a case of using what you have. I had some molding medium that was starting to thicken up a little. Hard to use with a brush. So I scooped it up in my hands and smeared it on the canvas. Not until the next day did I decide to make a landscape out of it.

I sent 3 paintings to Williams Sonoma for a catalog photo shoot. They basically have a room that they stage for their catalog. They will have a large pile of art from a lot of different artist and they will randomly pick whatever art strike them at the time. So there isn't any guartantee that they will use mine, but here's hoping. One of them was a lava painting (red ground). That's an inside joke explained on my last post.

I sometimes get questions from people who don't understand abstracts. I have been asked numerous time if the red ground is suppose to be lava. In case you were wondering. No!

I have been playing with this format, large red ground, small sky. This is the fun part of being an artist. Coming up with a new concept, then exploring it.
I am gearing up for shows this year. I am really wondering how many I should do. It is getting to the point where is is more profitable to sell on the Internet. Now they are talking about gas possibly doubling. That's pretty scary.
