I Won!

I won a major award at the art show. It was a 2 day show and I am wasted. Sunday I figured it would be slow, so I painted in my booth to try to draw some attention. It is amazing, when I would paint in my booth 15 years ago I would draw large crowds. Not so much any more. There were people who stopped to watch, but not like the good old days. I will post the paintings that I painted the next couple days. I am basically like a zombie for a day and a half after a show. I guess I'm getting old, I don't recover as quickly as I used to.

I was painting this painting intending to bring the green are all the way down to the water. I made the area where the dirt and rocks are a lot darker than I had intended. I was about to blot it out, when I noticed it kinda looked like a dirt drop off. So that is what I made it.

What am I going to be when I grow up?
Well, I'm not sure if I will ever grow up. But, I have high hopes for my 18 year old son, that someday he will grow up. He doesn't have an inkling of what he wants to be. He took a personality/aptitude test the other day. The results said that he was suited to be a creative type/ artistic. We totally haven't seen that, though is is a good musician. I didn't start painting until I was 26, so you never know.

How convenient, I had just painted this painting. I was asked to paint a painting during a church service, two days ago. I painted this to try to work out in my mind, what I was going to paint in the service. Since I only had an hour and 15 minutes to paint. I posted the painting that I painted during the service yesterday. You can see it turned out a whole lot different. I really love playing with light. Hope you enjoy it

I was asked to paint a painting during a church service, I only had 1 hour and 15 minutes.
It was a special service, no preaching, only worship music. There were 3 artist at the front painting, there were about 400 people attending. This is the painting that I painted on a blank canvas, with no drawing. I was really Boogie-ing. I don't usually paint at that speed, but it really has some amazing detail.
-
-
I was given the concept of God is my Rock, my refuge, the light that guides my path. It is filled with a lot of symbolism.
-
-
I thought about all the things that come against us in life. They are symbolised by the Crashing waves, the storm, the mountains in the background. The last thing that comes against us is discouragement, and that is why I chose Cape Disappointment. How, ironic that a Lighthouse, a beacon of hope, was built on a Cape named Disappointment. In the sky there is a Dove and there are three boats, moving toward the Lighthouse.
-
-
The story goes, that a sailor arrived there and thought he was home. It looked just like where he was going, and so he left Disappointed, because his journey wasn't over.

I am going to be doing a painting during a church service tonight. That should be interesting. I have 1 hour and 15 minutes to finish it. It's going to be a Lighthouse. I painted one yesterday to kind of get it worked out in my mind. I will be doing the painting without any drawing at all. I will start with a 30x24 blank canvas, so it will be very spontaneous. I won't know exactly what it will look like until I am finished.

I'm back, I have taken a small break from the Internet. I guess you could say I've experienced Internet burn out. I am tall and it takes a toll on my back when I have to do a lot of typing. I type, hunt and peck, so I have to look down on the Keyboard, which give me a headache. I need to go high tech and get one of those Type, Speaking programs, but I am too cheap.

I pretty much have the remodeling done. I really do have a one track mind, it is very difficult to paint when focused on other things. We had hardwood put in the kitchen and half bath. So it raised the floor 3/4 inch. The installer said, "I hope your not planning to replace your Dishwasher any time soon, because it's really going to be tight. Well, the Dishwasher blew up last night.

The hardwood looks great. The house is totally torn apart now, I am slowly trying to put it back together. Whatever it take to save a few dollars.

This painting is another one of those happy accidents. I tried to wipe up and area in the clouds with a paper towel. The paper left a streak of paint. I like it so well that laid the paper towel on the clouds and pulled down diagonal clouds to simulate a rain storm. Pretty cool!

We got 6 1/2 inches of rain yesterday, there is flooding everywhere. The local river is 8 feet out of it's banks. The paper says that Plumbers are overwhelmed fixing Sump Pumps and such. It was predicted that we would get less than 1 inch. We are having Hardwood put in our Kitchen and 1/2 bath today, and our water is going to have to be re-plumbed. I am going to do it myself, and a plumber I am not. Wish me luck, if I screw it up, we could be without water for a while. I am afraid that the 1/2 bath will be the last thing that they do, so that I won't be able to finish it today. We won't have a stove today either. Thank goodness for the Microwave, I can boil water for coffee. Priorities!

My youngest son is baby sitting our neighbors 2 boy for a few days. He brought the boys over to our house for a little while. I had forgotten how noisy two 9 years old boys can be. When my boys were younger, I was always home with them during the summer. It seemed like they were always worse during the summer. You know, not having their friends at school, to take some of that energy out on. I remember telling my boys on numerous occasions, "Can you please be quiet for just a few minutes". Memories! I wouldn't want to do it again, but good memories none the less.

I have painted many snow scenes over the years. This is without a doubt, the brightest sky I have ever painted in a snow scene. I don't know why it took me so long. Everyone seems to want to paint a snow scene dreary. Winter can be happy too!

Finally got , maybe I should say had to mow the yard yesterday. It was kinda like the Truman Show, with Jim Carey. All the neighbors were out mowing their yards also. It is the middle of Monsoon season in Indiana. Well, that's what it seems like. I had to go so slow that it took me twice as long. My yard is just over an acre, so it took a while. I just heard that this past July, was the coolest July on record. Guess I can't complain about that!

I've gotten on this kick where everything I'm doing is more to the realistic side. I think more than anything, it has to do with the brushes that I am choosing to use. Every brush allows you to do different techniques . Often I will choose the technique, based on the brush I pick. Rather than deciding on a technique and then picking the brush to do it with. Sometimes I just get bored with a certain brush, so I switch. I have painted a whole painting with 1 brush. I'm talking a 2 feet x 4 feet painting. Crazy Ugh! I seem to do everything backwards. I am left handed. I am using the side of the brain that most people never use. That probably explains a lot!
